The Dane County Land and Water Resources Department (LWRD) is accepting applications to develop an eligibility list for Limited Term Employment (LTE) for 2024. This eligibility list is for LTE Lake Management Harvester Operators, LTE Lead Lake Management Barge Operators, LTE Lead Lake Management Harvester Operators and LTE Lake Management Harvester Mechanics. Initial review of applications and/or job offers will begin in March 2024. Candidate profiles will be reviewed and qualified applicants will be invited to an interview. Mandatory training will be required for all LTE employees hired in 2024. Training will be offered on June 3, 2024. All hired LTE employees will be required to attend on training date; NO EXCEPTIONS. For more information on these types of positions please contact John Reimer, Dane County Lake Management . PAY RATES: LTE Lake Management Harvester Operators earn $22.99 per hour. LTE Lead Lake Management Barge Operators earn $24.04 per hour. LTE Lead Lake Management Harvester Operators earn $24.74 per hour. LTE Lake Management Harvester Mechanics earn $26.22 per hour. NOTE: Limited Term Employees (LTEs) are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week. For 2024, Lake Management LTEs may be required to work 10 hour days, four (4) days a week. This may include either a Monday through Thursday work-week or a Tuesday through Friday work-week. DEFINITIONS AND EXAMPLES OF DUTIES LTE LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER OPERATOR: Operate aquatic plant harvesters. Harvest aquatic plants in lakes and rivers to maintain water flow in rivers and provide recreation use for boating, fishing and swimming. LTE LEAD LAKE MANAGEMENT BARGE OPERATOR: Candidates with previous Dane County lake management work experience may be eligible for a lead position. Coordinate pier pickup on lakes with staff. Provide on water training for newer staff and ensure all safety protocols being followed. Must have knowledge of pier pickup procedures, weekly lake schedules, and locations where work is performed. LTE LEAD LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER OPERATOR: Candidates with previous Dane County lake management work experience may be eligible for a lead position. Coordinate harvesting locations with other operators and program staff. Provide on- water training for new staff and ensure all safety protocols are followed. LTE LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER MECHANIC: Perform routine maintenance of aquatic plant harvesters in the field including oil changes and general services. May perform work in the shop to assist with welding, fabrication of parts and equipment. Education, Training and Experience: Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Boater Safety Certificate prior to the first day of employment. Must have a valid driver's license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. .395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. For Bilingual Positions: Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.). Applicants being considered for Bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process. This may consist of either being able to respond to questions in that language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.) during the interview; or passing an oral translation (English to foreign language / foreign language to English) exam prior to employment. Physical and Environmental Work Requirements: Must be able to lift heavy objects greater than 50 pounds, bend and climb. Depending on the position applied for, following are the knowledge, skill and ability requirements for each position: LTE LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER OPERATOR: Ability to work well in teams and follow directions. Knowledge of boater safety. LTE LEAD LAKE MANAGEMENT BARGE OPERATOR: Ability to provide direction to others out on the water. Knowledge of boater safety and harvesting operations. Knowledge of priority harvesting maps and operations manual. Knowledge of pier pickup procedures, weekly lake schedules, and locations where work is performed. LTE LEAD LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER OPERATOR: Knowledge of boater safety and harvesting operations. Knowledgeable of priority harvesting maps and operations manual. Ability to provide on water training for new staff and ensure all safety protocols are followed. LTE LAKE MANAGEMENT HARVESTER MECHANIC: Basic knowledge of mechanical systems on aquatic plant harvesters. Basic knowledge of pumps and hydraulic systems.
